Australia is a follower

Australia is a follower

I just don't think we are smart enough as a nation. We had a concept that we would become the design house of APAC and all the high-value work would flow to us leaving the scraps to Asia. But, guess what, the Asian countries can design and build stuff better than us now. We are  more followers than leaders.

Japan was I initially poor at making products after 1945 but they caught on fast and they now sell their japan-designed products to the world. China will likely have the same path and countries like Australia, Argentina will be left behind.

Germany, Israel etc will rule - just my opinion

getting dizzy on the bus

Ok, fair shakes to jess Pugh's efforts in a short time - she has improved bus frequency, got a roundabout near middle park, got the summer road on the way and got a carpark to stop the lasse Faire lack of BCC/QR/TRANSLINK at the Darra transport hub, but the real problem is the Muppets in government (local and state) who do the projects with such limited planning horizons. We did a big infrastructure spend more than 10 years ago in Brisbane BUT not ambitious enough - just a band-aid for 5 years.

I look at the design standards applied and, not being an engineer, I ask "does constraining roads to a single lane at turns achieve anything but blocking turning traffic from progressing?"

We truly are a NANNY STATE - even our roads aren't allowed to WELL get us effectively to where we want to go and isn't that the only function of transport?

#movingOverseasAgain (yes, know this is not Twitter) thanks

Qld transport "planning'

I saw a LinkedIn article saying our transport system is not that good. If you hit the socials, you'll find a lovely series of a system continually getting better. Don't you just LOVE marcomms people ? Salt if the earth

I've given up mate - Qld transport and BCC cannot DESIGN anything. The average grade 6 would do a better job.

I despair about this ever changing so I'm going overseas to Germany, Japan where they can take advantage of their strengths. Oz is a great country but has squandered MANY opportunities. Mind you Brisbane will not be a nice place at 48 degrees and asthma/bronchitis/sinus going through the roof due the environmental pollutants like dust and whatever nasties the industrial sector had pumped into water, air and food

Electric vehicles in oz

The debate rages on between those who love petrol cars and those liking full electric with the fence-sitters option for hybrid. But, do we...
